In It 4 Kids - What's It All About?

I have been told that I have a “strong voice” and that I am “opinionated.”  That, coupled with my education, can lead to conversations I’ve been told are interesting and sometimes even helpful.  Through this blog, I’ve decided to take those conversations online.  I intend to present topics relevant to parents, teachers, doctors, therapists, and all other folks out there living with and working with or on behalf of children.

So who am I and why should you read my blog?  I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (in California, that title requires a doctorate), married mother of 3 distinctly different children.  I cannot separate my education from my mothering; I also can’t always apply my education and knowledge because life is not simple and dealing with real behavior and emotions does not always result in the perfect implementation of research based responses.  I do my best, as do the vast majority of parents, and am humbled, exhausted, excited, frustrated, and exhilarated by mothering.  I have no doubt that being an active, involved parent is the most difficult and underpaid job on the planet.

Life is messy.  This is my response to life:  tips, facts, ideas, information about everyday life with kids.  Because my professional life consists of testing children to determine why they are struggling in school (academically, socially, emotionally, and/or behaviorally), many of my posts will be about school.  However, as issues come up in my children’s lives, or the lives of their friends, I will likely share some thoughts as well.

I invite you comment on my posts.  All comments will be reviewed before appearing on the site.  Opposing views are welcome, but personal attacks (toward me or other commenters) will be deleted.  IF you are a former or current client, please know that saying so is not necessary and destroys your confidentiality.  Posting anonymously or only with initials is preferred.

Welcome and let’s get started…What do you want to talk about?
